THE BLIND HORSE IS EASTERN WISCONSIN’S FIRST RESTAURANT & WINERY TO PARTNER WITH MILWAUKEE-BASED GREEN UP SOLUTIONS TO PROVIDE HIGHEST LEVELS OF SAFETY AND SANITATION

Installation of Green Up Solutions Innovative Sanitation Services Scheduled for Friday, May 22,
Property to Open in Stages From May 22 through Early June

(Kohler, Wis.) May 21, 2020– The Blind Horse will reopen in stages with a high level of confidence that customers will have a safe, clean hospitality environment. In partnership with Green Up Solutions, a company based in Butler, Wis., providing advanced long-term antimicrobial protection for work and living spaces, The Blind Horse is set to install innovative, commercial-grade equipment and treatments in order to offer customers top-of-the-line sanitation throughout the entire property on May 22. The Blind Horse Winery is the first Winery in Wisconsin and The Blind Horse Restaurant is the first restaurant in Eastern Wisconsin to apply this premium level of sanitation.

“In the best interest of our staff and our customers, we reopen our property with the highest levels of sanitation possible,” said Thomas Nye, General Manager and Master Winemaker. “Of utmost importance is that we provide a safe environment so our guests and associates have the opportunity to reinvigorate and relax without the distraction of safety during times of uncertainty due to COVID-19.”

The Blind Horse is set to implement the patented Shock & Shield Process by Green Up Solutions incorporating ultraviolet light treatment and antimicrobial protection by OMNI Solutions of Baraboo, Wis. The Shock & Shield system is proven against viruses similar to COVID-19 mechanically killing 99.999% of microorganisms including bacteria, viruses, mold, and fungi and prohibits the spread of microbes. Green Up Solutions is the exclusive distributor and service provider of the Shock & Shield program for Wisconsin.

“UV light is able to not only disinfect the surfaces that the light reaches but also the air in the room. Whether particles and pathogens have settled or are airborne any harmful organism within range of the lights is killed,” said Andy Weins, President of Green Up Solutions, LLC. “UV light is a non-toxic, chemical free effective alternative, or in addition to, disinfecting a space.”

The Antimicrobial Protection by Green Up Solutions is an EPA-registered water-based technology that produces a durable coating on virtually all surfaces and a broad range of textiles. The application provides long-term control of growth by modifying the surfaces to be antimicrobial. The UV light treatment takes 30 minutes per room and results are measurable 15 seconds after completion. These products are 100% safe for the environment and cause no health concerns.

In addition to the new services and treatments from Green Up Solutions, The Blind Horse continues to use its preexisting commercial grade ozone equipment in The Winery and will extend this treatment process into the adjacent Tasting Room for added daily protection. The business is electing to add Germ Guardian Large Room Air Purifiers with HEPA Filters and UV-C Light Sanitizer. This air captures 99.97% of dusts and allergens and kills airborne germs and viruses.

The Blind Horse will be applying the following additional sanitation tactics and procedures of note in line with and in addition to Sheboygan County’s Safe Restart Recommendations :

– seating will be at proper social distance standards at a reduced capacity
– servers will be wearing masks
– front-of-the-house staff are participating in ServSafe’s COVID-19 training
– all orders must be placed with a server, no walk up drink or food orders
– Memorial Day Weekend parking attendants communication available seating on the patio

These processes, product and procedures will be applied at each of the three distinct Blind Horse buildings – The Winery & Tasting Room, The Restaurant and The Granary – and on the outdoor patio.

“The Blind Horse is exhausting all procedures, products and processes to create the safest hospitality experience and lessen the impact of our current climate,” said Nye. “Everyone is seeking a ‘shining light’ to inspire our struggling industry. We look forward to opening with confidence and staying open with confidence.”

The Patio is scheduled to open on Friday, May 22 at 4pm following the application of the Green Up Solutions scheduled for 9am. Memorial Day Weekend hours for The Patio are 4-10pm Friday and Saturday and 11am-4pm Sunday. Live music scheduled Friday and Saturday at 5pm. The Winery is scheduled to reopen at 25% capacity on Thursday, May 28 and The Restaurant the following week with reduced capacity and a soft re-opening for Blind Horse Wine Club Members only on Thursday, June 4. The Restaurant will open to the public on Friday, June 5. The Blind Horse Restaurant will continue offering curb-side pick-up through Thursday, June 4.
